What Is HorsePlay?
HorsePlay is a horse racing prediction system for South African flat racing. It started as a personal project for my own betting and grew into a full system that studies every runner in every race: its form, the people around it, the track, the draw, and how the market is pricing it.
Instead of one general predictor, three specialised parts work together: a main model that rates every runner’s chance of winning, a place model tuned for horses likely to finish in the first three, and the Outsider Detective, which looks for longer-priced horses with warning-free, positive signs the market may be overlooking.
Think of it as a form guide that does the maths for you. You don’t get a hunch or a “hot tip” — you get each runner’s chance in numbers, and a Daily Card that tells you exactly what to bet and how much, settled afterwards against the real tote dividends.
How It Works
Reading the Form
Every runner is profiled across more than 80 measures: recent form and speed, distance and track record, the draw, class, jockey and trainer form, how the trainer–jockey partnership is going, and how the price is moving. Each one uses only what was known before the race.
Three Models, One View
The main model gives every runner a win and place chance. The place model looks for steady place bets in the mid-price range, and the Outsider Detective flags longshots worth a small stake. The models are retrained on fresh results, and the main model is only replaced when the new version does at least as well on races it hasn’t seen.
The Daily Card
The models’ views become a short list of bets with fixed, modest stakes. A bet type only stays on the card while the evidence supports it, and the card warns you when a pick’s price is drifting badly before the off — often a sign the money has gone elsewhere.
Honest Results
The card is locked before the first race and settled afterwards against real tote dividends — not an optimistic formula. We post the losing days too, because a system you can’t check isn’t worth trusting.

We don’t publish a profit figure yet: an honest one needs at least six months of live results. When we have it, it goes here — good or bad. Past results don’t guarantee future ones.
